IC87424: UPGRADE OF TIVOLI STORAGE MANAGER SERVER MAY FAIL IF THE INSTANCE OWNER IS A DOMAIN ACCOUNT

Error description

  • When upgrading Tivoli Storage Manager Server component from
    6.1.x.xxx to 6.2.x.xxxx version, the instance recreation may
    fail if the instance owner is a domain account
    and the fully qualified domain name is not specified.
    A popup with the following error message could be raised at
    upgrade time when using the wizard:
    
    Invalid credentials.
    
    The installation wizard could not connect to the machine using
    the provided credentials. Check your user ID and password.
    
    and the logs.txt will report such kind of exception:
    
    SEVERE: beginSession failed (from
    com.tivoli.dms.install.RedefineInstances.connectAsUser)
    SEVERE: com.ibm.tivoli.remoteaccess.RemoteAccessAuthException:
    CTGRI0000E Could not establish a connection to the target
    machine

    Condition to lead to this problem:
              Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) and  Netbios are
    different and users enter Netbios\user_name when the upgrade
    tries to re-create the instance
