Error description
TPC Data server fails to start, OS return code 1053 presented instantly upon trying to start the service as a result of the instance1.dat file missing from <TPC_install_dir>/data directory. Instance1.dat is a file that contains the path to the JRE installed by TPC. The TPC data server process needs to be able to locate its own JRE installation in the event this file is deleted or becomes corrupt. RECREATE STEPS: Attempt to start the TPC Data server process on a server where the <TPC_install_dir>/data/instance1.dat file is missing. Local fix
Manually re-create instance1.dat file in <TPC_install_dir>/data. Within this file add the path to TPC's JRE. Windows example (default) path: C:\Program Files\IBM\TPC\jre\java15\bin\java.exe. AIX/Linux example (default) path: /opt/IBM/TPC/jre/java15/bin/java Confirm path to java is correct, save the new instance1.dat file in the identified directory and restart the TPC Data server process.

Problem conclusion
This APAR addresses the start up issue by attempting to use the java.exe installed with the TPC product, should the "instance*.bat" file be missing.
