IC86844: UPGRADE WIZARD DOES NOT ALLOW CHANGE OF UPGRADE TARGET INSTANCE NAME

Error description

• During Tivoli Storage Manager V5 server upgrade to V6 procedure,
  dsmupgdx.exe can terminate with -1952 error. This can happen, if
  target server instance name contains unsupported characters.
  Following error will be seen in dsmupgdx.trc log file:

  However, the upgrade wizard does not allow change of instance
  name resulting in upgrade terminating with -1952 error.

• Change V5 server instance name before upgrade to contain only

Temporary fix

• Use the reg.exe command to make a copy of a Tivoli Storage
  Manager server key with a valid name.
  
  For example, issue the following command:
  reg.exe copy HKLM\Software\IBM\ADSM\CurrentVersion\Server\a-b
  HKLM\Software\IBM\ADSM\CurrentVersion\Server\ab /s
  
  where a-b is the current instance name, and ab is the new
  instance name to be used.
  After the command completes, start the dsmupgdx.exe wizard.
  When you are prompted to select the server instance, select
  the new name.
