Error description

  • DETAIL OF PROBLEM (include example(s) of error(s)):

    Hypervisor(s) showing errors, at the Datasource, such as
    'Degraded Storage Path Redundancy', are not captured via the
    targets Probe job. Resulting in, no data collected from the
    Hypervisor.

    Additional and meaningful data needs to be captured regarding
    the current Hypervisor status as seen from the Datasource.

    RECREATE STEPS: Run Discovery and Probe to Hypervisor and view
    Results. Cross-reference the status seen at the Datasource for
    the Hypervisor.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED:                                              *
    * TPC 5.1.0 users who have hypervisor(s) managed by vcenter in *
    * their environment                                            *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * A probe does not collect data about a hypervisor that *
    * generates alarms in VMware vCenter. In Tivoli Storage *
    * Productivity Center, the status of the probe might be *
    * successful even though it did not collect any data about the *
    * hypervisor.                                                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * In VMware vCenter, managed hypervisors generate alarms or *
    * alerts that are based on their status. When a probe collects *
    * data about hypervisors, Tivoli Storage Productivity Center *
    * detects if hypervisors have alarms that are red alerts. To *
    * avoid problems when collecting data, accept the alarms that *
    * are red alerts.                                              *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • A code change was made so that if there are alarms on the
    vcenter about a specific hypervisor problem , the probe is
    successful only if data collection was successful. The fix for
    this APAR is targeted for the following maintenance package:

    | fix pack | 5.1.1.1-TIV-TPC-FP0001 - target March 2013

    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg21320822

    The target dates for future fix packs do not represent a formal
    commitment by IBM. The dates are subject to change without
    notice.
