Error description

• When Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments is
  configured to send VMware CTL objects to a non-deduplicated
  storage pool and COMPRESSION YES is in effect, warning message
  ANS4178W is always issued:
  
   ANS4178W Compression is currently enabled, but the virtual
            machine control files for 'virtual-machine-name'
            will not be compressed because client-side
            deduplication is not being used for the management
            class default or specified by the -vmctlmc option
            for 'vm-ctl-mgmt-class-name'.
  
  However, such a configuration can be intentional, and is fully
  supported by Tivoli Storage Manager. The configuration is:
  
   * COMPRESSION YES is in effect
   * The Data portion of the VMware data is sent to a storage
     pool that is enabled for deduplication
   * The CTL portion of the VMware data is sent to a storage
     pool that is not enabled for deduplication
  
  In this case, Tivoli Storage Manager should provide a way to
  eliminate this warning message, such as allowing an
  EXCLUDE.COMPRESSION statement to be used for the .CTL files.
  
  Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
  Tivoli Storage Manager Client 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4 on Linux and
  Windows
  

Local fix

• The message can be safely ignored.

Problem conclusion

• A new option was added: VMSKIPCTLCOMPRESSION YES|NO. When this
  option is enabled CTL files are not compressed even if
  COMPRESSION is set to yes, and no warning messages are
  displayed.
