APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • There is a low level network driver issue which will cause
incremental memory growths on the appliance.

Local fix

  • The work-around is to enable IPv6 on all of the appliances
    Ethernet interfaces.

Problem summary

  • Customers using firmware releases 3.8.1, 3.8.2, 4.0.1 and 4.0.2
may observe a slow growth in memory used by the appliance.
Firmware releases 5.0.0 and higher are not affected.

This happens if there is IPv6 traffic in one of the networks the
device is connected to and the corresponding interface has no
IPv6 address configured. Additional conditions must be met for
the leak to manifest, for example a packet dump running on the
    appliance.

This is a bug in the low-level network stack, causing a small
memory leak whenever a multicast IPv6 is received and IPv6 is
    disabled on the appliance.

Problem conclusion

  • The fix will be provided in 3.8.2.14, 4.0.1.12 and 4.0.2.8.

Temporary fix

  • Enable IPv6 on the appliance by assigning an IPv6 address to all
the Ethernet interfaces in use. Setting "Enable IPv6
    Autoconfiguration" control to "on"
in Ethernet Interface configuration, Main tab in WebGUI
is the simplest way of doing that.
