IC79832: ACTIVTY LOG RETENTION DEFAULT IS CHANGED FROM 1 DAY TO 30 DAYS

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When formatting a new TSM server the default to keep messages
in the activity log is 1 day. After the server is
initialized users must use the SET ACTLOGRETENTION command to
manually change the activity log retention value to longer
length of the time. Keeping messages for only 1 day often
does not provide enough log information when looking for
    errors or diagnosing problems.

Problem conclusion

  • This problem was fixed. When a new server database is
formatted the new default activity log retention value is 30
    days.
After the new server database is formated, users can still use
the SET ACTLOGRETENTION command to change the activity log
retention value to something different than the default value.

The Administrators Guide topic titled "Setting a retention
    period for the activity log",
and the Administrator's Reference Guide topic titled "SET
ACTLOGRETENTION" have been updated to reflect that the new
default retention period is 30 days when a new server database
    is formatted.
    .
Affected platforms: AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Linux, and Windows.
