APAR status

Error description

  • If a Tivoli Storage Manager server upgrade attempt fails during
    the db2ckupgrade step, the following warning may be printed to
    the screen (for example):
    
      ## Home directory of instance to upgrade is /home/tsminst1
    
      db2ckupgrade was unsuccessful. Please look at logfile for
      more details.
    
      An error occurred during the database check.
    
      The db2ckupgrade script has detected an error on your
      database(s). The wizard cannot continue with the
      installation. Perform the necessary database fixes and
      retry the installation.
    
    This warning does not provide adequate details to help users
    understand why the db2ckupgrade step failed.  A path to the
    referenced logfile should be included with the warning
    message so that users can get more details about the failure.

Local fix

  • On UNIX platforms, a "db2ckupgrade.log" (or similar) file
    is written to the /tmp filesystem.  On Windows platforms,
    a "db2ckupgrade.log" (or similar) is written to
    "C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\".  Additional details about
    the failure can be viewed in this log file.
