Error description
Upgrading the Tivoli Storage Manager Server from V5 to V.6.2.3.0, in "new system,network method" upgrade scenario, during the preparedb step, the DSMUPGDX upgrade wizard may fail with return code 10. Extract from the dsmupgdx.trc => ------------- Fri Aug 26 14:05:34 CEST 2011 com.tivoli.dsm.ServerConfig.ServerDB.parsePrepareOutput(): File c:\programme\tivoli\tsm\dr550_1\Prepare.Out not found. Fri Aug 26 14:05:34 CEST 2011 com.tivoli.dsm.ServerConfig.ServerDB.parsePrepareOutput(): exit, rc 10 The root cause of the problem is that the prepare.out file is not created so the dsmupgdx wizard cannot locate it and fails. Customer/L2 Diagnostics: When using the wizard to initialize the Tivoli Storage Manager server, a trace file is automatically created. Examine the trace file called dsmicfgx.trc located in the parent directory and look for this error: ....com.tivoli.dsm.ServerConfig.ServerDB.parsePrepareOutput(): exit, rc 10 Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: Tivoli Storage Manager Server version 6.2.3.0 Initial Impact: Medium Additional Keywords: TSM DSMUPGDX "RC 10"
Local fix
Upgrade the Tivoli Storage Manager server manually using utilities: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tsminfo/v6r2/index.jsp? topic=%2Fcom.ibm.itsm.srv.upgrd.doc%2Ft_srv_upgrd_utils_s4.html OR use a previous version of dsmupgdx.exe tool instead of using the one from version 6.2.3.0
