Error description

  • Problem Description:
The Tivoli Storage Manager server on Windows leaks memory with
its internal handling of some of the cached rows. Those cached
rows are ignored instead of freed because they are assumed to be
    handled by another thread.

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
The problem can be identified by an overall more and more memory
consumption of the Tivoli Storage Manager server (dsmserv.exe)
and/or the Tivoli Storage Manager server service (dsmsvc.exe).

A sign of this can be seen by issuing a SHOW MEM admin command
on the server console at a regular interval. The following two
lines will show a boundless increase (and perhaps overflow) in
the quantity of entries and memory usage:

        181277 entries, using 1169830303 bytes, from tbcli.c(1400)
    .
         [...]
        113790 entries, using -867642874 bytes, from tbtbl.c(5391)

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
Tivoli Storage Manager servers on Windows 6.1.5.0 (and above)
    and 6.2.2.30 (and above)

    Initial Impact:
    Medium

    | MDVREGR 6.2.2.30 |

Local fix

  • The memory will be freed upon a restart of the Tivoli Storage
    Manager server
