Error description
The Mailboxhistory information, that Data Protection for Exchange backs up, consists of information, collected from the Active Directory, about the location, Name, alias and trusties of individual mailboxes, stored in a mailbox Storage Group (Exchange Server 2003 or 2007) or mailbox Database (Exchange Server 2010). In case of a large installation and/or a complex Active Directory there is the chance, that the query of the Active Directory will time out. In that case, the backup of the Exchange Server will not be performed. There is no error message reported, indicating that the backup of the mailboxhistory information failed. This problem will also occur with the Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server. Data Protection Versions Affected: Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server version 2.1 and 2.2 Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server version 6.1 Initial Impact: LOW Additional Keywords: TDP Exchange FCM Mailboxhistory ActiveDirectory

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Data Protection for Exchange * * running 6.1.x releases. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: See ERROR DESCRIPTION. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply fixing level when available. Until the * * * * fix is available, please refer to the tech * * * * note located at: http://www.ibm.com/support/ * * * * docview.wss?uid=swg21501658 * * which will describe how to manually update * * the tdpexc.exe.config and tdpexcc.exe.config * * * * files with the necessary changes. * **************************************************************** Data Protection for Exchange uses Microsoft .NET Framework functions to get information about mailboxes from Active Directory. A Microsoft .NET Framework Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) Client that uses the .NET DirectorySearcher class to query the Active Directory directory service may receive an incomplete result set. This problem is more likely to occur if the network connection between the client and the server is slow or if the Active Directory server is busy. The client does not receive an error that reports this condition from the server. Therefore, the client does not know that it has received an incomplete result set.
Problem conclusion
Changes were made to the tdpexc.exe.config and tdpexcc.exe.config files to have .NET DirectorySearcher perform a check for the completion of the received data and reissue the query if necessary.
