Error description

  • DB2 APAR IC73564 documents a problem with DSMI environment
variables not being set up properly when DB2 is started
    automatic.

This might result in Tivoli Storage Manager server database
backups failing with one of the following messages reported in
    the db2diag.log:

MESSAGE : SQL2033N An error occurred while accessing TSM during
              the processing
of a database utility. TSM reason code: "".
    DATA #1 : SQLCA, PD_DB2_TYPE_SQLCA, 136 bytes
     sqlcaid : SQLCA sqlcabc: 136 sqlcode: -2033 sqlerrml: 2
     sqlerrmc: 53

    or
MESSAGE : SQL2033N An error occurred while accessing TSM during
              the processing
of a database utility. TSM reason code: "".
    DATA #1 : SQLCA, PD_DB2_TYPE_SQLCA, 136 bytes

     sqlerrmc: 138

For the messages reported above, no messages will be recorded in
the Tivoli Storage Manager server activity log to indicate there
    was a problem.

As another symptom the following message might be reported in
the Tivoli Storage manager server activity log:

ANR2983E Database backup terminated due to
environment or setup issue related to DSMI_DIR - DB2
    sqlcode -2033 sqlerrmc 168 . (SESSION: 1, PROCESS:
    2)

Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: all 62
      Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable)

Verify the environment variables set for the db2sysc process:
ps eww <process id for db2sysc>

The result set returned must contain DSMI_CONFIG, DSMI_DIR, and
DSMI_LOG to not be affected by this APAR.

      Initial Impact: Medium
      Additional Keywords: ZZ62 backup db

Local fix

  • start DB2 manually before starting the Tivoli Storage Manager
server (verify the environment as documented above to check that
the environment is set up properly)
