IC76411: DSMSERV RESTORE 6.X CRASH DUE TO CORRUPT OR MANUALLY UPDATED VOLHIST.

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The Tivoli Storage Manager server version 6.X, database restore
    command crahes without reporting an error message on the instanc
    console.  This problem is caused when the volume history file ha
    been corrupted or manually modified.
    To verify this problem use the core file generated by the crash
    to obtain the core stack.
    The core stack looks like this:

Local fix

  • Replace the volume history file with the original if the file
    has been manually changed or truncated.  If the file has been
    transferred to Windows sometimes the OS will add a carriage
    return to the end of each line, make sure all carriage returns
    are removed.  If the problem persists contact IBM support.
