Error description
While upgrading from an existing V5 server to a new V6 server, there are CPU requirements that need clarification within the Tivoli Storage Manager documentation. . This section is located under the "Upgrading" section within the section titled "Upgrading the server from V5 to V6". . If you are upgrading your V5 server to V6 on a new machine, there are the following CPU constraints: . Operating System: Group1: Group2: ----------------------------------------------------------- Linux x86 POWER x86_64 zSeries . Operating System: Group1: Group2: ----------------------------------------------------------- Solaris x86_64 Sparc 64-Bit . Operating System: Group1: Group2: ----------------------------------------------------------- AIX POWER . Operating System: Group1: Group2: ----------------------------------------------------------- HP-UX Itanium . Operating System: Group1: Group2: ----------------------------------------------------------- Windows x86 x86_64 . A Tivoli Storage Manager upgrade from V5 to a new V6 machine can only be completed to the same operating system. If the CPU architecture of the new V6 machine compared to the old V5 machine is different,it must be within the same CPU group (Group1 or Group2) within the above chart to be successful. . Here are some examples: . 1. You can upgrade a V5 server running on Linux x86 to a V6 server running on Linux x86_64. 2. You can upgrade a V5 server running on Windows x86 to a V6 server running on Windows x86_64. 3. You cannot upgrade a V5 server running on Linux x86 to a V6 server running on Linux POWER. 4. You cannot upgrade a V5 server running on Solaris SPARC to a V6 server running on Solaris x86_64. 5. You cannot upgrade any V5 server running one operating system to any V6 server running a different system, regardless of the CPU architecture. . Customer/L2 Diagnostics: None. . Initial Impact: High . Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All 5.X to 6.X Tivoli Storage Manager server upgrades using the extractdb/insertdb process to a new machine. . Additional Keywords: TSM ZZ61 ZZ62 upgrade install cpu architecture endian endianess .

Problem conclusion
/**************************************/ Proposed Closing Text Users Affected: All Tivoli Storage Manager server users. Problem Description: See error description. Problem Summary: * Problem Conclusion: The "Tivoli Storage Manager Upgrade and Migration Guide for V5 Servers" was updated to describe the hardware and software restrictions that apply to upgrades from V5 to V6 on a new system. A table advises the user about how to upgrade the system, based on the existing hardware and software on the V5 server. The table includes the following content: V5 server: AIX running on an IBM POWER system, then V6 server: AIX running on an IBM POWER system V5 server: HP-UX running on an Itanium system, then V6 server: HP-UX running on an Itanium system V5 server: HP-UX running on a PA-RISC system, then V6 server: HP-UX running on an Itanium system Comment: HP-UX running on PA-RISC is not supported for V6 servers. V5 server: Linux running on an IBM POWER system, then V6 server: Linux running on an IBM POWER system V5 server: Linux running on an Itanium system (IA64), then V6 server: Linux running on an x86_64 system Comment: Linux running on Itanium is not supported for V6 servers. V5 server: Linux running on an x86_32 system, then V6 server: Linux running on an x86_64 system Comment: Linux running on x86_32 is not supported for V6 servers. V5 server: Linux on System z, then V6 server: Linux on System z V5 server: Windows running on an Itanium system (IA64), then V6 server: Windows running on an x86_64 system Comment: Windows running on Itanium is not supported for V6 servers. V5 server: Windows running on an x86_32 system, then V6 server: Windows running on an x86_64 system In addition, a note that said that the user cannot upgrade Tivoli Storage Manager to a different operating system was changed to the following: Restriction: In most cases, you cannot upgrade your server to run on an operating system that is different from the operating system that it currently runs on. For example, you cannot upgrade a server running on an AIX system to a server running on a Linux system. Affected platforms: AIX, HP-UX, Linux, and Windows.
