Error description

  • EHLLAPI application users experience intermittent delays or slow
down in performance. Traces show a 2 second round trip time for
each EHLLAPI function call for two minutes or more. Then the
delay goes away and the EHLLAPI function calls return to normal
    sub-second round trip time.

This happens on PCOM 5.9.0 and 5.9.7.1 levels.

    ****************************************************************
Multi threaded EHLLAPI applications experience intermittent
hang and a consistent 2 second delay in EHLLAPI calls.

Problem conclusion

  • When a user application makes a EHLLAPI call, PCOMM creates a
memory block. This is done once for an instance of the user
application (one per process). If the first EHLLAPI call is
made through multiple threads, PCOMM needs synchronization to
allow only the first thread to create this memory block. The
release of the lock for this synchronization was not done
cleanly. PCSHLL32.DLL has been changed to resolve this.
