Error description

  • TAPESIZE Configuration Parameter is described in Administrator's
    Reference
    as below.

    TAPESIZE Configuration Parameter

    onconfig.std value
        0
    units
        Kilobytes
    range of values
        0 through 2,097,151

    But when we define much more size like 10240000, that means 10
    GB,
    the instance is started successfully. And when we backup DBS
    larger
    than 10240000 KB by ontape, ontape displays the prompt message
    for
    the next mount and continue working after mounting a new media.
    It shows the description in Administrator's Reference is wrong.
    It should be corrected and we would like to know the exact
    maximum
    value. LTAPESIZE is same.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * For the LTAPESIZE and TAPESIZE configuration parameters, *
    * the documentation showed the range of values as 0 through *
    * 2,097,151.                                                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * When you enter a LTAPESIZE or TAPESIZE value, specify 0 or *
    * any positive number.                                         *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • The correct range of values for the TAPESIZE and the LTAPESIZE
    configuration parameters is 0 or any positive number. The real
    value  is operating-system dependent.

    (TAPESIZE specifies the size of the device to which ontape backs
    up storage spaces. LTAPESIZE specifies the maximum tape size of
    the device to which the logical logs are backed up when you use
    ontape for backups.)
