Error description

  • When installing the Tivoli Data Protection for Exchange on a
Windows OS with English as the primary language, but a different
region then United States (US), you need to run "tdpexcc set
lang=enu" to set the language to "English US". The manual is
clear on how to install and activate the language packs for
non-English users, but it is not clear that this has to be done
if you are installing the English version on a non-US region.

The TDP will pickup the language options from the OS during
installation, so on Windows Servers that have a region other
then the default US, you need to run the "tdpexcc set lang=xxx".

Where xxx is any of the supported languages as outlined in the
    manual.
In this case it only supports one version of English, that being
    US (enu).

For example, if you install the Tivoli Data Protection on a
English OS that has the region set to Canada, the installation
will set the langague to tdpeenc, where enc stands for English
Canada. However enc is not a supported language by the Tivoli
Data Protection software, so after the installation, when
attempting to start the Data Protection client it will output
    the message:
ANS0101E Unable to open English message repository
    tdpeenc txt'.

It is necessary to perform the additional step to set the
language to American English with the command "tdpexcc set
    lang=enu".

    Additional Keywords:

    TDP; TDPEENU; TDPEENC

Local fix

Problem summary

  • *******************************************************
USERS AFFECTED: All users of Tivoli Storage Manager
(TSM) for Mail: Data Protection for Exchange
    (DP for Exchange) V5.4, V5.5 and V6.1.
    ********************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The Data Protection for Exchange documentation is not clear
that US English is the only English language locale
    supported by DP for Exchange.
    .
If an English locale is used on the system other than
US English, and you have not set LANG=ENU in the
DP for Exchange configuration file, tdpexc.cfg, several
error messages are displayed on start up before the
    application is launched.
    ********************************************************
    RECOMMENDATION:
If you are using an English locale other than US
English (ENU) on your system, update the DP for Exchange
configuration file to define US English for use by
    setting LANG=ENU in the file.
    ********************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • This is the expected behavior for DP for Exchange. However,
to better clarify the specific English locale required
by DP for Exchange the following updates are/will be made to
    product documentation:
    .
    1) With the next release of TSM for Mail:
Data Protection for Exchange, the installation instructions
will reflect updates to clarify that US English is the
only supported English locale and that using other
English language locales requires that LANG=ENU
be defined in the DP for Exchange configuration file.
    .
    2) The existing DP for Exchange Known Issues and Limitations
tech notes have been updated to include the following
    entry:
    .
US English (enu) is the only "English" locale supported
by Data Protection for Exchange and FlashCopy Manager for
Exchange. Failure to set the language to ENU in the tdpexc.cfg
will result in error messages every time that you launch
FlashCopy Manager for Exchang or Data Protection for Exchange
just as if you were using a non-English locale without
    installing the corresponding language pack.
