Error description

  • Tivoli Storage Manager calculates the max element slots by
calling two device driver calls. First, to get the library
element count. Then, the device driver will request the
inventory information for the number elements returned by the
library element count. If this is successful, Tivoli Storage
Manager will be able to utilize all of the discovered slots.

    Example:
If element count reports 9000 slots, the device driver will
    request inventory for 9000 slots.

There are currently limitations due to the max transfer length
of the HBA and the OS architecture (DMA max size). Both of
these max DMA sizes need to be taken into account within the
    Tivoli Storage Manager device driver.

To identify this problem, get the device driver trace.

    Example:
    cd /opt/tivoli/tsm/devices/bin
rm ddtrace.out (deletes old trace file)
    ddtrace start librarydd
    ./lbtest
    select 1: Manual test
select 1: set device special file (enter your /dev/tsm_lb device
    name)
    select 6 : open
    select 8 for element count
    select 9 for inventory
select 99 to return to main menu
    select 9 to exit lbtest
    ddtrace get librarydd
    ddtrace end librarydd

The new ddtrace.out will have message:
    ps_scsi_execute: scsi_transport failed transport_rc = -1
(This is: package is too large)

    Initial Impact: Low
Additional Keywords: max transfer length zz61 zz62 TSM
