  in the client

  Allowing subfile backups
  For mobile and remote users, you want to minimize the data sent
  over the network, as well as the time that they are connected to
  the network. You can set the server to allow a client node to
  back up changed portions of
  files that have been previously backed up, rather than entire
  files. The portion of the file that is backed up is called a
  subfile. For more information, see Chapter 15,  Managing data
  for client nodes,  on page 507.

  You might need help to generate backup sets and enable subfile

  Use this command to set up the server to allow clients to
  back up subfiles.
  
  On the client's workstation, the SUBFILECACHEPATH and
  SUBFILECACHESIZE options must be specified in the
  client's options file (dsm.opt). If you are using a
  Windows client, you must also specify the SUBFILEBACKUP
  option.
  
  This information was added to the Administrator's Guide:
  Restriction: Subfile backups are only applicable to
  Windows clients.
