Error description

  • Tivoli Storage Manager Storage Agent is unable to use
an emulated IBM device with serial number longer than 18
characters on Windows when the Tivoli Storage Manager server
is on a non-Windows platform.

The Storage Agent activity log will show the following error
message.

ANR8779E Unable to open drive \\.\tape0, error number=66504.

Tracing will show the following information.

Serial number mismatch! The serial in descriptor is
[ad5c9446ab9da098097f20], and the serial for inquiry is
[ad5c9446ab9da09809] for drive LIB1DRIVE0

The problem was reported on NetApp VTL.
