APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When using a 32-bit Ultimate-C edition and setting SHMTOTAL in
the onconfig you will get a warning in the instance message log
file upon startup:

Warning: The IBM IDS Ultimate-C Edition license restriction
limits
the total shared memory size for this server to 0 KB.
The maximum allowable shared memory was reset to this size to
start the database server.

Local fix

  • To avoid this message set a proper SHMTOTAL value for your
instance in accordance with the licensing terms.

Problem summary

* Users who have configured SHMTOTAL as 0 and using one of     *
* Ultimate-C edition, Ultimate Choice Edition or Growth        *
* edition.                                                     *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
* We should not do any checks for shared memory limit on 32bit *
* platforms for Ultimate-C edition, Ultimate Choice Edition    *
* and Growth edition as they support memory up to the 32bit    *
* limit.                                                       *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
* Upgrade to IDS version 11.50.xC8.                            *
****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • Upgrade to IDS 11.50.xC8 or set SHMTOTAL to a value greater than
0.
