IC70960: DB2 INSTALLATION CAN FAIL WITHOUT MESSAGE ON A DOMAIN CONTROLLER.

Error description

• Error Description: When performing an installation of the Tivoli
  Storage Manager server on a domain controller, it is possible
  that the Tivoli_Storage_Manager_InstallLog will report that the
  installation was successful.  However, DB2 is not successfully
  installed and DB2 commands cannot be run.  This can prevent the
  instance configuration wizard from running correctly.
  
  Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: 6.1, 6.2
  
  Customer/L2 Diagnostics: The
  Tivoli_Storage_Manager_InstallLog.log will show the following.
  
  Summary

  Installation: Successful.

  However, commands such as db2ilist will not run from a DB2
  command line.
  
  The dsmicfgx.trc file will also show a -1957 return code for the

Local fix

• DB2 can be manually installed.  To do this run the installer
  found here :
  
  <install package extraction
  location>\COI\PackageSteps\DB2\FILES\ESE\image\setup.exe
  
  Once DB2 is reinstalled, you should be able to run DB2 commands
  from the DB2 command window as well as run the configuration
  wizard.

Problem conclusion

• Although the original problem could not be duplicated, this
  information has been added to the Installation Guide for
  Windows platforms for clarity regarding domain controllers:
  
  You should not install a Tivoli Storage Manager server on a
  domain controller if there are performance critical
  applications also running on that domain controller. The
  Tivoli Storage Manager server can have periods of heavy CPU
  usage that can severely impact other applications running on
  the domain controller.
