IC69156: V6.1 SERVER CAN EXPERIENCE SLOW EXPIRATION PROCESSING ON GROUPED OBJECTS

Error description

  • The Tivoli Storage Manager Server version 6.1 can experience
    slow expiration when processing a large filespace containing
    many grouped objects.  During this time, the process can appear
    hung on a particular node/filespace.
    .
    This problem typically applies to expiring Windows client
    system state data filespaces, which contains predominately
    grouped objects.
    .
    Additionally, this problem can also happen during DELETE
    FILESPACE processing of a large node filespace containing
    many grouped objects.
    .
    Only the Tivoli Storage Manager Server version 6.1 is
    affected by this issue.
    .
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    Capture a "group imdel imexp addmsg" trace from the server
    during Expiration.  Look for large delays between the
    ImDeleteGroupMemberFast() function and the
    ImDeleteGroupMember() function trace points.  For example:
    01:02:03.456 ■2■imgroup.c■2979■ImDeleteGroupMemberFast:
                 Deleting group relationship for leader
                 0.813274981, member 0.813320988, type 2, UL:
                 True, UM: False
    01:07:03.456 ■2■imgroup.c■2927■ImDeleteGroupMember:
                 Returning rc=0

    Note that it takes about 5 seconds to process between these
    two trace points, and this indicates the problem.
