IC67488: IDS 11.50.XC6W2 WORKGROUP AND EXPRESS EDITION ABEND IN FIRST RES TART AFTER ONINIT -I WHEN THE VPCLASS PARAM IS NOT FULLY DEFINED

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When you initialize the 11.50.xC6W2 Workgroup or Express edition
  and the VPCLASS definition of CPUVP in $ONCONFIG file doesn't
  contain the 'aff' argument, the initialization is successful,
  but all the subsequent starts of the instance fail with the
  following message being displayed on stderr:
  
  WARNING: server initialization failed, or possibly timed out (if
  -w was used).
  Check the message log, online.log, for errors.
  
  and following error is written to the online.log file:
  
  15:06:52  VPCLASS 'cpu' not enough physical procs for affinity
  15:06:52  oninit: Fatal error in shared memory initialization
  15:06:52  IBM Informix Dynamic Server Stopped.
  15:06:52  mt_shm_remove: WARNING: may not have removed
  all/correct segments
  

Local fix

• Before instance initialization, change the VPCLASS parameter for
  CPUVP so it will contain the proper 'aff' definition, for
  example:
  - for a system with 1 CPU
  VPCLASS cpu,num=1,max=1,aff=(0),noage
  
  - for system with more CPUs
  VPCLASS cpu,num=3,max=1,aff=(0-2),noage

Problem conclusion

• The problem is first fixed in 11.50.xC7. Now the server will
  identify the correct number of physical processors and
  affinitize them.
