Error description

  • When using the GENerate BACKUPSETTOC command for a backup set
    created with a server level 5.3.x, the command will fail with
    the following error message:
    ANR9999D icvolhst.c(3502): ThreadId <XX> Unable to find
    volumes for backup set, date=03-01-2006 23:03:28 (local),
    dateGMT=1141254208
    
    A new field was added to the Archive.Objects table for level
    5.4 and the backup sets created at level 5.3.x are missing a
    value for this field. Without this value the GENerate
    BACKUPSETTOC command is unable to find the volume to use.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
      5.4 and higher
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable)
      1.) Backup set must have been created using a 5.3.x level,
      for this problem to apply.
      2.) Review the Activity Log and if the following messages
          appear then problem has been encountered:

     A BKSET trace might show the following:
    
       admbkset.c(4839): after finding backupset, rc=0
       setType=6, aliasObjId=0.0, protocol=2
       genDate=2006/03/01 23:03:28, volDateGMT=1141254208
       If aliasObjId=0.0 then the problem has more than likely
       occurred.
    
    For version 6.x, message:
    
     ANR9999D_2338283827
      icGetObjectSetVols(icvolhst.c:4217)
      Thread<47>: Unable to find volumes for backup set,
      date=02-23-2003 14:31:00 (local), dateGMT=0
    
     ANR2032E GENERATE BACKUPSETTOC: Command failed -
     internal server error detected.

Local fix

  • Delete and redefine the backup set on the server. Make
    sure to record all the volumes that make up the backup set
    before deletion as this will remove them from the volhist
    and they will be needed for the redefine.
    
    The fix for this APAR does not require a deletion of the
    backup set.
