IC66186: UNLOAD/DBEXPORT TRUNCATE VARCHAR DATA WHILE CONVERTING IT FROM EN_US.8859-1 TO EN_US.UTF8

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When you have a database using locale en_us.8859-1 and
  containing a table with a VARCHAR column which holds non-ASCII
  characters and you unload that table (or dbexport that database)
  with DB_LOCALE set to 'en_us.8859-1' and CLIENT_LOCALE set to
  en_us.utf8, the data in the VARCHAR column gets truncated during
  the conversion.
  The non-ASCII characters are stored as one-byte in EN_US.8859-1,
  but some of them are muti-byte in UTF8. After the conversion,
  the actual length of the data in the VARCHAR column might
  increase, however the unload & dbexport utilities truncate them
  to the original length of the VARCHAR column.

Problem conclusion

• Beginning with IDS 11.50.xC7, the exported data will not be
