Error description

  • When running tape drive operations involving encryption, tape
drives with a lun value greater than 1 will encounter the
    following error:
    .
ANR8984E The drive DRIVEX (mtX.Y.Z.W) in library TAPELIB is
incapable of performing any drive encryption operations.
    .
In the error above, a sample device name would be mt0.4.0.2.
The lun value of 4 was greater than 1, hence the error.
    .
This has been determined to be caused by an error in the TSM
device driver. The Security Protocol In CBD was being built
incorrectly when the lun value was greater than 1.
    .
    CUSTOMER/L2 DIAGNOSTICS:
    .
A trace via mttest will show the following:
    .
dd_build_cdb: 0x86c3a650 SCSI command = Security Protocol In
    dd_scsi_cmd: dev_p 0x86c3a650 dev_p->cdb_p 0x86c3ace8 cmd_len=

    dd_scsi_cmd: command 50 timeout 120 data_len 56
    dd_scsi_cmd: scsi_data_address 0x86c3aa78 exec_mode 0x3
    dd_scsi_cmd: 0x86c3a650 CDB a2 20 00 10

    CDB 04-07 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00
    .
The initial CDB is built correctly with a2 20, but then gets
    modified incorrectly into A2 60.
    .
    INITIAL IMPACT: Medium

Local fix

  • Adjust the lun value for the tape drive to a value that is not
greater than 1 via hardware configuration if possible.
