Error description

  • The TSM command QUERY STGPOOL may not return the complete
list of storage pools. The storage pools missing from the
output will occur alphabetically after some storage pool
which has a specific setup that causes a calculation problem
to occur. No more storage pools that exist alphabetically
after the "problem" storage pool will show in the
    QUERY STGPOOL output.
    -
SELECT output from the STGPOOLS table is also affected
    similarly.
    -
Storage pools after the problem storage pool can be
queried directly using the storage pool name as an
argument to the QUERY STGPOOL command. The problem
storage pool cannot be queried using this method,
however. The problem pool will return this error:
    -
    tsm: SERVER1>query stgpool NOPOOL
ANR2034E QUERY STGPOOL: No match found using this criteria.
    -
Other commands which return storage pool names, such as
query volume for example, will show the storage pool
names which are not listed with the QUERY STGPOOL command.
    -
This problem occurs after a volume is created in a
storage pool using a devclass of type FILE when there
    previously were no volumes.
    -
The problem is the MAXSCRATCH value, multiplied by the
MAXCAPACITY value of the associated devclass equals a value
in bytes which is larger than a 64 bit integer. This value
is calculated to estimate free space in the storage pool
after the first volume is created in the pool.
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
5.4, 5.5, and 6.1 servers on all platforms
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
The SHOW SSPOOL command can be used to show all storage
pools which exist. The first storage pool on this list,
alphabetically, which does not exist in QUERY STGPOOL
output is likely the cause of the problem, and to match
this problem it must be using a device class type FILE.
    -
Tracing the QUERY STGPOOL command using the problem
storage pool as an argument with the SSPOOL flag should
    return this line:
    15:40:35.489 [1327][asutil.c][1697][AsGetPoolStatus]:
AsGetPoolStatus: unable to get capacity for 'empty'
    defined vols for pool 26 - oflow=1, numEmpty=0,
    emptyWithCap=0, maxCap=100.0.
    Initial Impact:
    Medium
    Additional Keywords:
MSGANR2034E missing stgpool stg storagepool devc maxcap
    maxscr file fileclass filepoolzz61

Local fix

  • Use the QUERY DEVCLASS <devclass> F=D command to find the
MAXCAPACITY value. Use the SHOW SSPOOL command to find the
MAXSCRATCH value (MaxScratch=XXX). Use the UPDATE STGPOOL
and/or UPDATE DEVCLASS commands to reduce one or both of
these values. These values should be an accurate
representation of the amount of actual storage available. They
can be updated at a later time if storage is added.
