Error description

  • The TSM device driver may fail to discover VTL devices attached
    to an AIX host.
    .
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
A trace of the discovery process can be enabled by issuing the
    following command:
    .
       export CFG_DBG=1
    .
From the same AIX shell where this command was issued, start
SMIT and perform the device discovery process. The trace data
will be written to the smit.log file and may resemble the
    following:
    .
       issue_scsi_inquiry: Parent_fd=3
       issue_scsi_inquiry: SCIOLINQU successful,rc=0
       issue_scsi_inquiry..inq.inquiry_ptr->pdevtype=0x0

       call_inq: issue start sid=0x60c100 lun=0x0
    .
In the trace excerpt above we see that the TSM device driver
issues the inquiry command against lun 0 on SCSI ID 0x60ba80.
The inquiry command returns a device type of 0x0 (disk device).
This results in a failure because disk is not a supported device
type for the TSM device driver. The TSM device driver does not
proceed to look at the remaining luns on that SCSI ID as it
should and, as a result, may fail to discover additional
    devices.
    .
    Initial Impact:
    Medium
