APAR status

Error description

• When the '/tmp' directory on a Unix machine has close to the
  required space available (190 megabytes), and the df command
  installed on the system does not default to POSIX output, then
  the install will fail with a message as follows:
  "Requirement check: Failed
  - /tmp size is less than 190000 KB"
  .
  There are two different error conditions for this problem:
  .
  1) In the first scenario, the initial space calculation is done
  incorrectly so that if for example you have 275 megabytes of
  free space on '/tmp', no warning will be generated, and the
  install will fail with:
  .
  "Requirement check: Failed
  - /tmp size is less than 190000 KB"
  .
  # df -h  (before the install)
  Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
  /dev/sda1              21G  4.6G   16G  23% /
  /dev/sda3             289M   11M  264M   4% /tmp
  .
  # df -h (after the install fails, note that the space is
  consumed by creation of an install.dir directory inside /tmp)

  /dev/sda3             289M  160M  115M  59% /tmp
  .
  2) In the second scenario, the free space is smaller in this
  case (197 megabytes) which is still more than the listed
  requirement for the TSM installation:
  # df -h
  Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
  /dev/sda1              21G  4.6G   16G  23% /
  /dev/sda3             289M   78M  197M  29% /tmp
  .
  However, a warning message is generated:
  Preparing to install...
  WARNING: /tmp does not have enough disk space!
           Attempting to use /root for install base and tmp dir.
  .
  The install will finish successfully even though there was less
  free space than in the first example.
  This error occurs because output from the 'df' command is not
  processed correctly.

Local fix

• Create an alias or script for df that adds -P flag to force
  posix mode.
