APAR status

Error description

  • The following error occurs when trying to natively view SMTP
    emails with attachments through an IBM
    eDiscovery Manager installation that is deployed to IBM
    WebSphere Application Server Version 7.
    
    In Miscrosoft Internet Explorer the following error occurs:
    The website cannot display the page.
    
    In Firefox the following error occurs:
    Error 500: java.lang.VerifyError: javax/mail/Part.setDataHandler
    (Ljavax/activation/DataHandler;)V
    
    This problem does not occur when eDiscovery Manager is deployed
    to WebSphere Application Server Version 6.x.
    

Local fix

  • Use the eDiscovery Manager preview feature to view these emails
    instead of the native view feature.
    

Problem summary

  • When an SMTP email is attempted to be viewed in its native
    application, an error occurs if the email has one or more
    attachments. The entire email cannot be viewed; instead, the web
    browser displays an error message stating "Page cannot be
    displayed".
    

Problem conclusion

  • When rendering an SMTP email for native view in a browser, while
    eDiscovery Manager is processing attachments, a JAR in the
    eDiscovery Manager library directory conflicts with a JAR in the
    WebSphere Application Server library directory. This causes an
    error which prevents the email from being rendered. This error
    was corrected by removing the conflicting JAR from the
    eDiscovery Manager library so that only the WAS JAR file is
    used.
