IBM Systems Storage N series Tape Device Configuration Files

Support for tape devices is included in Data ONTAP and the built-in tape device configuration parameters. A particular release of Data ONTAP will include support for specific tape devices.

Support for a tape device that is not included in a particular release of Data ONTAP may be provided via a Tape Configuration File (TCF) specific to that tape device. Additional TCFs may appear automatically in the "/etc/tape_config" directory of the storage system, indicating native support was accomplished using the configuration file method. Do not modify these files. Data ONTAP may restore these files to their original state upon reboot.

If the tape device is already supported (built-in) by Data ONTAP, a separate TCF for it will not be used, and a warning will be generated by the storage system. If necessary, remove any TCFs from the "/etc/tape_config" directory of the storage system that show native support in the release of Data ONTAP installed.

Tape devices that have been tested to work with a configuration file of a specific Data ONTAP release are listed in the Tape interoperability matrix found in the IBM System Storage N series products section of the Network attached storage interoperability matrices Web page.

Only configuration files of tape devices listed in the N series Tape Device Interoperability Matrix are supported. Contact IBM support if you require a TCF that is not included in the release of Data ONTAP running on your storage system.

Note: All other configuration files, any altered configuration files, or any configuration files on a Data ONTAP release, other than those specified in Tape Device Interoperability Matrix, are considered unsupported by the N series storage systems.
