This bulletin relates to vulnerabilities in the Apache Tomcat component which is used to provide the product’s management GUI. The CLI interface is unaffected.

DESCRIPTION:
Apache Tomcat is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by an error in the Apache Commons FileUpload component. By sending file upload requests, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the server to become unresponsive.

Affected Products and Versions

IBM Storwize V7000 Unified
The product is affected when running code releases 1.5.0.0 to 1.5.2.4 and 1.6.0.0 to 1.6.1.0

Remediation/Fixes

A fix for these issues is in version 1.5.2.5 and 1.6.2.0 of IBM Storwize V7000 Unified. Customers running an affected version of IBM Storwize V7000 Unified should upgrade to 1.5.2.5 or 1.6.2.0 or a later version, so that the fix gets applied.

Workarounds and Mitigations

Workaround :

System administrators should restrict the permitted maximum size of HTTP request
header values (For example, Apache Httpd provides a
LimitRequestFieldSize directive,
and Apache Tomcat provides a maxHttpHeaderSize attribute in their respective configuration files). A maximum header value size of 2048 bytes would block all dangerous request.
