Host Attachment
Block Storage
For block I/O, hosts can be attached to the Storwize V7000 control enclosure by Fibre Channel SAN or Ethernet iSCSI methods.
Refer to the following Storwize V7000 document for block storage interoperability information:
For Storwize V7000 Unified 1.5.0.X code:
For Storwize V7000 Unified 1.5.1.X and 1.5.2.X code:
File Storage
For file I/O, hosts can be attached to the IBM Storwize V7000 Unified File Modules by 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps Ethernet methods.
The following protocols are supported for file access:
- Network File System (NFS)
- NFSv3 (kNFSv3 stack), NFSv4 (IBM NFSv4.0 stack)
- Common Internet File System (CIFS)
- Server Message Block (SMB) / CIFS
- SMB2.1
- Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS)
- File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
- Secure Copy Protocol (SCP)
For more information on NFS/CIFS protocol, read the support matrix.
Notes:
- CIFS/SMB access is supported only for filesystems placed on Storwize V7000 internal storage or external storage provided by IBM FlashSystem 820, IBM FlashSystem 840, or IBM FlashSystem 900.
- Linux / CIFS support: Linux clients accessing file shares using the CIFS protocol with RHEL version 6.3 or lower may experience data integrity problems in error recovery scenarios. It is strongly recommended that RHEL version 6.4 or higher with all previously released errata, relevant to your system, is installed on Linux clients.
- AIX / NFS support (kNFSv3 stack): AIX clients accessing file shares using the NFS protocol may experience data integrity problems in error recovery scenarios. AIX customers should request the following APARs from AIX support:
- AIX 6.1 : TL5 or later - APARs: IV07784, IV07918
- AIX 7.1 : TL0 or later - APARs: IV08311, IV08310
- Windows / NFS support: Microsoft Windows clients accessing file shares using the NFS protocol over TCP may experience a loss of access during File Module failover scenarios. This issue occurs because the Windows NFS client does not transparently retry I/O if the connection is lost.
- VMware support:
- VMware 5 is supported for file attachment to Storwize V7000 Unified.
- VMware 4.x is currently not supported for file attachment to Storwize V7000 Unified.
- Windows 8 off-line folders are not supported.
- IBM Storwize V7000 Unified does not support using Windows NTP servers to provide network time synchronisation. For further information, please refer to the Microsoft article for more details: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773013%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
Fibre Channel SAN Attachment
Refer to the following Storwize V7000 document for Fibre Channel SAN interoperability information:
For Storwize V7000 Unified 1.5.1.X and 1.5.2.X code:
External Storage Virtualization
Refer to the following Storwize V7000 document for external storage interoperability information:

Antivirus Software
The following antivirus software is supported for integrated use with Storwize V7000 Unified:
- McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 along with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise for Storage 1.0.2
- Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) for Network Attached Storage (NAS) 7.0 [ Formarly known as Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) for Network Attached Storage (NAS) 5.2 ]
File Backup/Restore Software
The following file backup/restore software is supported for integrated use with Storwize V7000 Unified:
- Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)
The Storwize V7000 Unified system can use built in Tivoli Storage Manager integration to act as a Tivoli Storage Manager client for backing up and restoring file systems.
Tivoli Storage Manager client version 7.1.0 is integrated into the Storwize V7000 Unified 1.5 system.
Every Tivoli Storage Manager server used in conjunction with the Storwize V7000 Unified integrated Tivoli Storage Manager client must be version compatible and supported. See IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server/Client Compatibility and Upgrade Considerations.
- Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP)
The Storwize V7000 Unified system supports NDMP version 4 provided by compatible Data Management Applications (DMAs), including: - Symantec Veritas NetBackup 6.5.6 and later
- EMC NetWorker (formerly Legato NetWorker) 7.6.2 and later
- CommVault Simpana 9
- Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) 6.2.1 and later
Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM)
The following software is supported for integrated use with Storwize V7000 Unified:
- Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management
Refer to the Tivoli Storage Manager information above for software version information.
Note: Refer to the Configuration Limits and Restrictions for IBM Storwize V7000 Unified for more information.
