Update(s) for HMC 7.7.8

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides instructions to update the HMC Version 7.7.8 with the latest fixes for 7.7.8.

Resolving The Problem

This document provides instructions for updating HMC Version 7.7.8 with the latest fixes for 7.7.8.

If the HMC is not at 7.7.8, you should first upgrade to 7.7.8 using one of the following documents:
o If the HMC is at an earlier release of Version 7, refer to document N1021593 Upgrading the HMC from Version 7.3.x or Version 7.7.x to Version 7.7.8. To link to document N1021593 immediately, click here

Special Note: Corrective service fix Service Pack 2 for HMC 7.7.8 fixes openssl security vulnerability CVE-2014-0160 and CVE-2014-0076 (Heartbleed" problem). After installing the fix, additional instructions are needed. See Security Bulletin: Power Hardware Management Console is affected by vulnerabilities in OpenSSL (CVE-2014_0160 and CVE-2014-0076) at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1020021 This vulnerability was originally addressed by corrective service fix MH01423, which was superseded by MH01447 and is now superseded by SP2. If either MH01423 or MH01447 were installed previously AND the additional instructions followed at that time, it is not necessary to repeat the additional instructions. Otherwise, refer to the link above and follow the instructions provided there after installing SP2.

.iso images

Important information when using .iso images for 7.7.8 corrective service fixes
The HMC is now able to read .iso files. This provides additional options for updating from media. Available options are:

1) Burn the iso file as image to CD-R/DVD-R.
This is the traditional method used in the past and requires one CD/DVD per fix.
2) Copy one or more iso files to media.
The fixes are copied to media as data. The media can be CD-R, DVD-R, or USB. Multiple fixes (iso files) can be placed on the same media if space permits.

Do the following to obtain the Version 7.7.8 Required Corrective Service Fixes:
Step 1: Download Service Pack 1 HMC_Update_V7R780_SP1.iso
Step 2: Download Corrective service fix HMC_Update_V7R780_SP2.iso
Step 3: Download Corrective service fix MH01570.iso
Step 4: Either burn the .iso file as data to DVD-R, or copy to USB flash drive.

Note: Service pack 2 requires that either SP1 OR MH01388 for SP0 be installed first. If either is already installed, continue with installing SP2. If neither is installed, first install SP1 followed by SP2.

1. Install Service Pack 1
To install SP1, load the media on the HMC:
- If using DVD, load media into the DVD drive on the HMC.

Internet

To install Version 7.7.8 Required Corrective Service fixes directly from the IBM FTP site, do the following:

Prerequisites
a HMC must have network connectivity to the Internet
