Installing specific fixes via removable media

The "HMC Install Corrective Service Wizard" is used to apply fixes, or corrective service packages, to the HMC.

1. You can download ISO images for Update and required maintenance packages from Fix Central
Then burn/copy the fixes to media.

Available options are:
a) Burn the ISO file as image to DVD-R.
This is the traditional method used in the past and requires one DVD per fix.
b) Copy one or more ISO files to media.
The fixes are copied to media as data. The media can be CD-R, DVD-R, or USB flash. Multiple fixes (iso files) can be placed on the same media if space permits.

2. You can also order physical media online from Fix Central.

Follow these steps to install corrective service packages:

Step 1. Install the update

To install a fix, load the CD into the DVD drive on the HMC or connect the USB flash drive.

Next, follow this procedure to apply the fix:

For Classic GUI:

  1. At the HMC Navigation page, select Updates.
  2. At the Work page, click the Update HMC button to display the "HMC Install Corrective Service Wizard".
  3. At the Current HMC Driver Information panel, click Next.
  4. An the Select Service Repository panel, select Removable Media, and then click Next.
  5. At the Installation and Configuration Options panel, select either CD-ROM or DVD-RAM or USB Flash Memory Device, and then click Next.
  6. At the Select Service Package panel, select media image - no description, and then click Next.
  7. At the Confirm Service Installation panel, click Finish.
    The HMC interface retrieves the fix package from the physical media and begins the installation process.
  8. When the HMC Install Corrective Service Progress panel indicates "Corrective Service installation was successful", click OK.
  9. Remove the CD from the DVD drive or disconnect the USB flash drive.

For Enhanced GUI:

  1. In the navigation area, click the HMC Management icon, and then select Console Management.
  2. In the content pane, click the Update the Hardware Management Console icon to display the "Install HMC Corrective Service Wizard".
  3. At the Current HMC Driver Information panel, click Next.
  4. An the Select Service Repository panel, select Removable Media, and then click Next.
  5. At the Installation and Configuration Options panel, select either CD-ROM or DVD-RAM or USB Flash Memory Device, and then click Next.
  6. At the Select Service Package panel, click on the PTF you are trying to install and then select media image - no description, and then click Next.
  7. At the Confirm Service Installation panel, click Finish.
    The HMC interface retrieves the fix package from the physical media and begins the installation process.
  8. When the HMC Install Corrective Service Progress panel indicates "Corrective Service installation was successful", click OK.
  9. Remove the CD from the DVD drive or disconnect the USB flash drive.

Step 2. Reboot

Reboot the HMC after the installation of the fix package has been completed. Rebooting ensures that all changes are available immediately.
NOTE:It is mandatory that you restart the HMC after each PTF.

  1. When prompted by the HMC, "Do you want to reboot the HMC now?", click Yes.
  2. After the reboot, log in to the HMC.

Step 3. Verify a successful update

After the HMC is rebooted, follow these steps to verify that the corrective service update was successful:

  1. Select Welcome from the Navigation panel.
  2. Select About the Hardware Management Console.
  3. Point your mouse over the HMC Version link on the Content panel to display Version information. Check the fix information against the "Splash panel information" section of the Readme for the specific fix (PTF).
