Copy MSSD and LIC Logs to Tape at SST - RISC

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document describes how to copy a Main Storage Dump (MSD) and Licensed Internal Code (LIC) Logs to tape at system service tools. This document assumes the MSD was previously copied to the system ASP.

Resolving The Problem

Copying MSSD to Tape from SST

This procedure assumes that the option to copy the MSSD to disk was selected from the Main Storage Dump Manager screen at the time of the dump.

Note: A initialized tape must be in the tape drive. On an IBM operating system command line, issue the following command:

INZTAP DEV(zzz) NEWVOL(MSDTAP)

where zzz is the tape drive you have your tape loaded. Use MSDTAP as the new volume identifier.

1.On an operating system command line, type STRSST, and press the Enter key.
2.Select Option 1, Start a Service Tool, and press the Enter key.
3.Select Option 6, Main storage dump manager, and press the Enter key.
4.Select Option 2, Work with copies of Main Storage Dumps, and press the Enter key.
5.Locate the desired dump in the list presented, and type 8 in front of it to select Option 8 to copy to media.
6.On the Copy Main Storage Dump to Media screen, type the name of the tape volume mounted (default is MSDTAP). Use 0001 for the file sequence number, and press the Enter key.
7.On the Select Tape Unit screen, type the name of the tape unit being used, and press the Enter key.
8.The Copy Main Storage Dump to Media Status screen is shown. The percentage of the copy completed is shown as the copy progresses.
9.When the copy is completed, Copy completed normally is shown in the message area at the bottom of the screen.
10.Press F3 three times to return to the Exit System Service Tools screen. Press the Enter key to complete exiting SST and return to the command line.
Copying LIC Logs to Tape from SST

To copy LIC Logs to tape from SST do the following:
1.On an operating system command line, type the following:

STRSST

Press the Enter key.
2.Select Option 1, Start a Service Tool, and press the Enter key.
3.Select Option 5, Licensed Internal Code Log, and press the Enter key.
4.Select Option 3, Dump entries to tape from the Licensed Internal Code Log screen, and press the Enter key.
5.Type 3 for the Dump option, leave everything else as defaults, and press the Enter key.
6.Type the Volume ID (MSDTAP). Use LICLOG01 as the file name. If the LIC Logs are to be on the same tape as the items above, use sequence number 0002 for the LIC Logs.
7.Press the Enter key on the Warning screen.
8.Type the tape unit name, and press the Enter key. A message is shown at the bottom of the screen that says 1 is the tape dump request identifier. You are at the Dump Entries to Tape from Licensed Internal Code Log screen.
9.Press F3 one time. You are returned to the LIC Log screen. (There may be a short wait on this step.)
10.Select Option 7, Display the status of the Licensed Internal Code log, and press the Enter key.
11.Watch for the message Dump requests not complete. Press the F5 key to refresh the display. When the message changes from 1 to 0, a message that says 1 tape dump request has completed normally should be displayed. If it fails, an error message is displayed. In the case of an error message, begin again using a fresh tape.
12.Press F3 three times to back out of SST. Then, press the Enter key to confirm your choice to exit.
Label tape with Problem Number and send to:
