Abstract

When performing disk hotplug to a device in a 5107-084 disk drawer, the "device" links in sysfs may not get created, preventing the user from correlating the failed device with the enclosure slot.

Symptoms
When using sysfs to locate the enclosure slot of a specific device, the symbolic link to the enclosure slot, which looks similar to the following, may not exist.

/sys/block/sda/device/enclosure_device:42

This makes it difficult to correlate which block device maps to which enclosure slot to perform service functions such as lighting the slot indicator LED prior to a disk replacement procedure.

Workaround
There is currently no known workaround for this issue. The fix referenced below should be applied to the system.

Fix Outlook

Red Hat has released a fix for this issue in the 3.10.0-514.28.1.el7 kernel.

Canonical has released a fix for this issue in the 4.4.0-98 kernel.
