      Message IDC3009I ** VSAM CATALOG RETURN CODE IS 126 - REASON CODE IS IGG0CLRN-14 received on IDCAMS ALTER NEWNAME of VSAM KSDS at the CLUSTER level. Explicit renames of DATA and INDEX components of the same KSDS do not fail.
      
      'MVS/ESA System Messages Vol.3 (GDE-IEB)' under Return Code 126 directs the user to add decimal 1000 to the RSN code issued with RC126. This results in RSN1014, documented in the 'DFSMS/dfp Diagnosis Reference' as meaning " The explicitly specified SMS class does not exist. "
      
      
      Resolution:
      
      A change had been made to the SMS ACTIVE configuration, deleting an SMS STORAGE CLASS STORCLAS which had been assigned to the KSDS at the time it was created.
    • At the time of the RENAME the STORCLAS no longer existed.
    • When the ALTER NEWNAME of the CLUSTER executed it drove the SMS STORCLAS ACS routine, which failed with RSN1014.
    • ALTER NEWNAME of the individual DATA and INDEX components of the CLUSTER did not fail, because the SMS ACS STORCLAS and MGMTCLAS routines are only redriven for a rename of a cluster.
    • Since it is possible to rename a data or index component. It is not possible to assign a different STORCLAS or MGMTCLAS from the CLUSTER.
      
      The problem was resolved by doing an ALTER of the CLUSTER to change the STORCLAS to a valid STORCLAS, then resubmitting the ALTER NEWNAME to change its name.
    • This problem description and solution apply equally to STORCLAS or MGMTCLAS as each of these ACS routines are driven for CLUSTER level renames using ALTER NEWNAME.
