General Information

THIS SECTION CONTAINS INFORMATION THAT IS OF GENERAL INTEREST DURING DEVICE INSTALLATION. 3. 16/02/16 Helping you to prepare for the IBM z13 server! A z/OSMF workflow for the z13 server is available, and includes the steps needed to migrate to a z13. This workflow contains interactive steps to help you understand migration considerations, restrictions, actions to take before you order your server, and a checklist of items that will be discontinued on future servers. The workflow contains the same valuable information as the z/OS V2.2 Migration book, in the topic "Migrate to an IBM z13 or IBM z13s server." To obtain the z/OSMF Workflow for the IBM z13 server, go to: http://www.ibm.com/systems/z/os/zos/tools/downloads/zosmf- z13-migration workflow.html (Watch for the URL wrap.) There are relatively few new migration actions when coming from a zEC12, zBC12, z196, or a z114. Migration to an IBM z13 server has, as its base, a migration to preceding IBM servers. If you have already performed the migration actions associated with the zEC12 or zBC12, you have very few new migration actions to perform on z/OS for a z13 server. It is important to note that you can migrate directly to a z13 server without installing the intermediate servers. However, you must ensure all required migration actions have been taken for the previous generations of servers. For these actions, refer to the PSP buckets for the prior server levels and the z/OS V2.2 Migration manual. If you are upgrading from a prior processor generation to a z13, you must install the required service identified in the "Software Service Levels" section (below), and perform the migration actions described in "z/OS V2.2 Migration." To understand the specific z13 functions that are available on each z/OS release and whether any web deliverables are required for that release, see "z/OS V2.2 Migration," which you can find a link to here: (http://www.ibm.com/systems/z/os/zos/installation/). Processor support is delivered in service (PTFs), z/OS features, and web deliverables. All base support for z13 servers is delivered in PTFs. This PSP bucket identifies the SMP/E Fix Categories that can be used to identify the required service, additional recommended service, and service needed for exploitation. IMPORTANT: Not all the required PTFs are listed in the Software Support section of this PSP bucket. Those for prior servers are listed in their PSP buckets. If you are migrating from a generation prior to the zEC12 and zBC12, you must install all the service required for each intermediate generation. See Section 3, Software Service Levels. Any PTFs specific to the z13 for Recommended Service are listed here and also identified by a SMP/E Fix Category. Exploitation can require z/OS features to be enabled, PTFs to be installed, and web deliverables to be downloaded and installed. For example, the cryptographic exploitation support for the z13 server is available as a web deliverable packaged as an FMID with additional PTFs. Depending on the z/OS release you are using and the cryptographic functions that you want to use, you might be able to use the level of ICSF included with your z/OS release or an earlier cryptographic web deliverable. Similarly, if you are using z/OS V2.1 and want to exploit the new machine instructions using XL C/C++ (ARCH(11) and TUNE(11)) or SIMD exploitation by MASS and ATLAS Libraries, then a separate web deliverable (the z13 Exploitation Support for z/OS V2.1 XL C/C++ web deliverable) is required. Likewise, if you are using z/OS V1.13 and want to exploit Flash Express (including pageable 1 MB Large Page support, dynamic reconfiguration support, or optional PLPA/COMMON page data set support), or 2GB Page support then a separate web deliverable (the z/OS V1R13 RSM Enablement Offering web deliverable) is required. If you are upgrading from a zEC12 or zBC12 server to a z13 server, you must install the required service listed in the Software Service Levels section (below) and perform the migration actions described in the z/OS V2.2 level of z/OS Migration. The SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX report, based on current HOLDDATA, can help you quickly identify the fixes you need that are not yet installed on your system. This function is based on fix categories. For the z13, the applicable fix categories are: + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.RequiredService + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.Exploitation + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.RecommendedService + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.ParallelSysplexInfiniBandCoupling + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.ServerTimeProtocol + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.UnifiedResourceManager + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.zHighPerformanceFICON + IBM.Function.zEDC + IBM.Device.Server.zBX-2458 + IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V2R1 + IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V5R1 + IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V4R1 + IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V3R1 See the Software Service Levels section for information about the specific functions available on each release and any web deliverables required for that release. 2. 15/02/04 (Replaced by #3) 1. 15/01/14 (Replaced by #3)

Hardware Service Levels

THIS SECTION CONTAINS INFORMATION THAT IS HARDWARE SERVICE LEVEL RELATED. 1. YY/MM/DD NO ENTRIES

Software Service Levels

THIS SECTION CONTAINS THE MINIMUM REQUIRED SOFTWARE PRODUCT LEVELS REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THIS DEVICE. 10. 16/10/27 This update adds PTF numbrs for asynchronous CF duplexing. The prior update added z/OS UUID support for KVM and Linux. THIS ENTRY DOCUMENTS THE Z/OS SUPPORT REQUIRED FOR THE z13 server. It has been separated by z/OS release. You should use these SMP/E Fix Categories specified, with current FIXCAT HOLDDATA (see instructions below): + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.RequiredService + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.RecommendedService + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.Exploitation Service required for a number of functions, including Parallel Sysplex InfiniBand Coupling Links, Server Time Protocol (STP), the Unified Resource Manager, High Performance FICON (zHPF), and zEDC Express are not listed here but can be found by using the following Fix Categories. + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.ParallelSysplexInfiniBandCoupling + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.ServerTimeProtocol + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.UnifiedResourceManager + IBM.Device.Server.z13-2964.zHighPerformanceFICON + IBM.Function.zEDC + IBM.Device.Server.zBX-2458 + IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.V2R1 To avoid the need to specify multiple Fix Categories for these functions for prior servers, you can use a wildcard for the server name to check for all required PTFs. For example, specifying these Fix Categories for the REPORT MISSINGFIX command will check for all required PTFs for all four functions: + IBM.Device.Server.*.ParallelSysplexInfiniBandCoupling + IBM.Device.Server.*.ServerTimeProtocol + IBM.Device.Server.*.UnifiedResourceManager + IBM.Device.Server.*.zHighPerformanceFICON Similarly, fixes needed for zBX and IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator (IDAA) support are not listed here but can be found using these Fix Categories: + IBM.Device.Server.zBX-2458 + IBM.DB2.AnalyticsAccelerator.* If you are upgrading from a z196, z114, z10 EC, z10 BC, z9 EC, z9 BC, z990, z890, z900 or z800 server, you must install all the maintenance and perform the required migration actions for each intermediate server. To simplify the task of installing the required maintenance you can use the fix categories listed below. However, the simplest way to identify all required, recommended, and exploitation service is to specify: IBM.Device.Server.* If you prefer to do this by server generation, you can instead specify the fix categories this way: Server Skipped Fix Catecory ======= ======================================= zBC12 IBM.Device.Server.zBC12-2828* zEC12 IBM.Device.Server.zEC12-2827* z114 IBM.Device.Server.z114-2818* z196 IBM.Device.Server.z196-2817* z10 BC IBM.Device.Server.z10-BC-2098* z10 EC IBM.Device.Server.z10-EC-2097* z9 BC IBM.Device.Server.z9-BC-2096* z9 EC IBM.Device.Server.z9-EC-2094* z890 IBM.Device.Server.z890-2086* z990 IBM.Device.Server.z990-2084* If you want to specify more granular Fix Categories, you can find them documented in the applicable PSP buckets for each server. HOW TO USE SMP/E FIX CATEGORIES =============================== You can use SMP/E and the fix categories described above to identify any required, recommended, and exploitation PTFs for the z13 server that are not already installed on your system. Do this using the SMP/E REPORT MISSINGFIX command. For example: SET BDY(GLOBAL). REPORT MISSINGFIX ZONES(zosTgtZoneName, db2TgtZoneName, cicsTgtZoneName, imsTgtZoneName) FIXCAT(IBM.Device.Server.z13*). In this example, a wildcard suffix ("*") is used on the specified fix category to identify any missing PTFs for all the fix categories for the z13 server. This REPORT command will analyze software installed in the specified target zones, and determine whether PTFs identified by the specified fix categories are not installed in those target zones. The resulting Missing FIXCAT SYSMOD Report identifies any PTFs you need to install. Fix categories are defined in IBM HOLDDATA. Therefore, before you run the SMP/E REPORT command, you must first acquire the latest HOLDDATA from IBM. Current HOLDDATA is provided in all IBM service deliverables, including orders produced using SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER and ShopzSeries,. Also, they are available in the "Full" (730 day) HOLDDATA file you can download directly from (ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/s390/holddata/full.txt).
