APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When listing the contents of variables during a CEEDUMP, the
COBOL run-time fails to check if tables are addressable, leading
to an ABEND0C4 that terminates the CEEDUMP.

A table might not be addressable if for example the BLL cell on
which the table is based contains a bad value, or has not been
initialized. Depending on the bad BLL cell value, bogus values
may be listed rather than an 0C4 being taken.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Incomplete CEEDUMP output and ABEND *
    * during dump processing. The generated *
    * CEEDUMP prints only the first element *

    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
COBOL CEEDUMP processing does not validate the table element
address before accessing, leading to secondary ABEND in the
COBOL library when the invalid table element is accessed.

Problem conclusion

  • Corrected CEEDUMP processing in the COBOL runtime library. When
a table element address is invalid, the message '*** Invalid
address for this item, no value displayed ***' is printed next
to it and the CEEDUMP process continues
