APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Using MVSDS with
  AddOutputFilterByType SUBSTITUTE text/html
    Substitute "s/foo/bar/ni"
  
  may return a 500 Internal Server Error to the client with this
  error in the error log:
  [substitute:error] AH01328: Line too long, URI /uri
  

Local fix

• Use a larger SubstituteMaxLineLength, ie
  SubstituteMaxLineLength 10m
  

Problem summary

• ****************************************************************

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Improper handling of newlines by        *
  *                      mod_substitute could cause errors.      *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION:  Apply this fix if using IHS 9.0 on z/OS     *

  On z/OS, mod_substitute did not treat newlines properly,
  resulting in some non-intuitive captures/substitutions and
  "AH01328: Line too long" errors.
  

Problem conclusion

• The mod_substitute handling of newlines was modified to
  properly handle newlines.
  
  This fix is targeted for IBM HTTP Server fix packs:
  - 9.0.0.4
  

Temporary fix

• SubstituteMaxLineLength defaults to 1m.  Increase this as
  needed, ie
    SubstituteMaxLineLength 10m
