Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V5 and later *
    * releases running programs that use DISPLAY *
    * statements with the WITH NO ADVANCING *
    * phrase, and its output are sent to a *
    * sequential dataset or to a member of a PDS. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The "+" ASA printer control character *
    * of the DISPLAY statement is missing *
    * when there are other DISPLAY statements *
    * in the program using the WITH NO *
    * ADVANCING phrase. The erroneous *
    * DISPLAY may or may not have the WITH *
    *                      ADVANCING phrase specified.             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
The internal state of the COBOL runtime DISPLAY routine becomes
incorrect after processing a WITH NO ADVANCING phrase. This
causes the current and subsequent DISPLAY statements in the
program get incorrect ASA printer control characters.

Problem conclusion

  • The logic of the COBOL runtime has been fixed to output the ASA
    printer control character correctly.
