Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM Automatic Binary Optimizer * * (ABO) for z/OS, v2.1 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: This APAR addresses the following * * issues from the ABO 2.1 PTF: * * * * 1) For some modules that contain a * * large number of PERFORM statements, * * ABO may consume high amounts of CPU * * time and memory. ABO was modified to * * reduce memory usage and CPU time * * consumption for some modules * * containing these statements. * * * * 2) This APAR improves the RTI Profiler * * output by providing a 'Summary Report * * by Language' section. The following * * information is displayed for each * * language: * * - Number of samples collected from the * * application, displayed as an absolute * * number as well as a percentage of * * total samples from the run * * - Number of samples collected from any * * COBOL specific LE routines, displayed * * as an absolute number and as a * * percentage of total samples from the * * run * * * * 3) This new function APAR enhances the * * listings of ABO optimized modules by * * displaying additional data from the * * prolog sections of each CSECT * * including the program prolog areas * * PPA1 and PPA2. This additional data is * * displayed for CSECTs compiled by * * compiler releases from COBOL/370 1.1 * * to Enterprise COBOL V4R2. CSECTs * * compiled by VS COBOL II 1.3 and 1.4 do * * not display this additional data. * * * * 4) In some rare situations, when * * optimizing input modules containing * * PERFORM statements, ABO may issue * * 'BOZ1455W Unsupported feature "Program * * Complexity 182" found' message and * * skip optimization of the CSECT. ABO * * was modified to successfully optimize * * some input modules which contain these * * statements. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply provided service * **************************************************************** The ABO 2.1 Trial was modified to include all the above items from the March 2020 ABO 2.1 PTF.
Problem conclusion
The ABO 2.1 Trial now includes these improvements from the March 2020 ABO 2.1 PTF.
