Error description

  • If the VIOS adapter reaches a total of 511 logins
which would be the total of all mapped VIOC using
that same adapter, Targets may failed to configure
with config manager and may return ENOMEM.

This might be seen when adding a high number of tape
drives, since tape drives are considered a target.
The initial list of tape drives would configure
but some tape drives near the end of the list
    may fail to configure.

The key to experiencing this problem is the max number of
logins from any specific FC adapter will be limited to
511 which would likely be seen in a tape drive
    environment.

Local fix

  • Configure less than 511 targets / tape drives for any
specific physical adapter on the VIOS.

Problem summary

  • Failure to configure more than 512 targets per adapter

Problem conclusion

  • Changed code to handle more targets.
