APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When several blocking lock requests are made from the
    same
process and the same client in parallel (such as in a
    multi-
threaded process environment), depending on the timing,
    it
is possible that some lock requests receive a
    "NLM4_BLOCKED"
response (even though the lock could have been granted)
    and
have to wait for up to 60 sec before a retry is
    attempted.

Local fix

  • None. The lock requests will be retried after 60 sec
    automatically
    by the client side code.

Problem summary

  • From an NFS client, when several blocking file lock requests
are made from the same process and the same client in parallel
(such as in a multi-threaded process environment), depending
on the timing, it is possible that some lock requests receive
a "NLM4_BLOCKED" response (even though the lock could have
been granted) and have to wait for up to 60 sec before a
    retry is attempted.

Problem conclusion

  • Modified NFS server code to properly handle the blocking file
    lock requests.
