APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When a file is accessed in a CIFS mount while that file
system is also being unmounted, AIX can sometimes crash
with a stack trace similar to this:

    [00406F3C]bad_vnode_bad_caller+000000 (F1000100450B4880
    [??])
    [0040C874]vnop_getattr+000118 (??, ??, ??)
    [0044B128]getstat+000020 (??, ??, ??, ??)
    [0044BCA4]fstatx+0000F4 (??, ??, ??, ??)
    [00003810].svc_instr+000110 ()

Local fix

  • The workaround is to unmount CIFS file systems as
    infrequently as possible.

Problem summary

  • VFS assert because CIFS vnode/gnode freed while in use.

Problem conclusion

  • Put in place proper synchronization mechanism to prevent
any currently used vnode from getting freed.

Temporary fix
