IZ85822: NIMSH FAILS TO RESET LC_MESSAGES WHEN LC_MESSAGES=C@LFT APPLIES TO AIX 6100-06

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • nimsh in environments with cultural convention that sets
the environment variable LC_MESSAGES=C@lft, fails to
reset LC_MESSAGES.
So all messages from commands in nim environment using
nimsh will be in English instead of the local language
set by LANG in /etc/environment.

Local fix

  • remove LC_MESSAGES settings in /etc/environment on nim
clients, but then customer might get problems if using
an lft as console.

Problem summary

  • messages are not displayed in the required language

Problem conclusion

  • set message language as appropriate when terminal is not lft
