IZ77079: FUSER GIVES INCORRECT PIDS WITH -X OPTION APPLIES TO AIX 6100-06

Error description

  • fuser gives incorrect output when used with -x option.

When used with -fx option instead of listing the process
ids which are using that particular file, it is listing
all process which are using that filesystem in which that
file resides.

    # cd /tmp/
    # touch bbb
    # fuser -fx bbb

    # fuser -O -fx bbb
    bbb:

Local fix

  • use -O option

Problem summary

  • fuser -fx /smit.log
/smit.log:  1442018k 2097264k 2949256k 3080202k 3211422k

fuser may print extraneous sockets.

Problem conclusion
