IZ74330: NIM SYNC / REPLICATE FAILS DUE TO C_RSH ERROR APPLIES TO AIX 5300-09

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When performing a sync / replicate action from a nim
  master to an alternate master such as this:
  
  nimmst:> nim -Fo sync -a replicate=yes nimalt
  
  It will fail and you will see an error in the output that
  is similar to:
  
  error replicating resources: unable to
  /usr/lpp/bos.sysmgt/nim/methods/c_rsh nimmst.domain.com
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• When syncing to an alternate NIM master, an error message
  may be displayed:
  > nim -Fo sync -a replicate=yes alt_mstr
  ...
  error replicating resources: unable to /path/to/res
  
  This caused by the c_rsh program crashing:
  > /usr/lpp/bos.sysmgt/nim/methods/c_rsh alt_mstr date
  rc=2
  0042-002 c_rsh: error signal number 11 received -
  processing aborted
  

Problem conclusion

• Properly check return code from NIM library functions to
  avoid use of uninitialized variable.
